To enable the customers to choose the mattress and beddings suitable for themselves, AIRLAND has imported an advanced mattress testing machine, ERGOCHECK, from Germany. Instant analysis of customer's figure and needs can be performed, and the machine chooses the mattress that suits the customer best. In such a way, AIRLAND's professional performance pledge is fulfilled.

By mean of a thin pad, the 684 independent detectors of ERGOCHECK detect the echo pressure borne by different parts of the human body on the mattress, thus, accurately measuring the pressure. Analysis of data by means of the computer, shows the pressure inserted by the mattress on different parts of the human body which is illustrated by a colourful three-dimensional graphs of the human body. This compares the evenness of the support of different kinds of mattresses.
Summary of the HKU Mattress Test Report

Objective:

  • To study the paraspinal muscle electromyography (EMG) and spine kinematics when sleeping on different mattress.
  • The paraspinal muscle EMG can show the level of relaxation of the subject’s paraspinal muscle during sleeping. Generally, the greater is the signals of the EMG, the more contracted is the muscle, vice versa.
  • The spine kinematics test is to investigate the shape of the spine during sleeping. A good mattress should be able to maintain the nature curvature of the sleeper’s spine, otherwise, the spinal health is affected.

Mattress Tested:

  • There were totally 6 mattresses tested. In addition to the “Beauty” and “Super Gold” provided by Airland 4 different models from different brands were selected for comparison.

Methodology:

  • The Paraspinal Muscle EMG Test
    1. Seventeen surface electrodes were placed onto the paraspinal muscles of the subjects
    2. All these electrodes were connected to an amplifier while the amplified signals were then entered the computer through a data acquisition card.
    3. The collected data were processed accurately by professional technicians to work out useful information.

  • The Spine Kinematics Test
    1. A six infrared-camera motion analysis system was used to record the three-dimensional motion of the spine during sleeping.

Results:

  • Airland “Beauty” and “Super Gold” were found the best performers in both the paraspinal muscles EMG test and the spine kinematics test.
